An overwhelming theatrical experience returns.
A relentless, high-intensity physical theater piece comes back to the stage.
First presented in 2023 and highly acclaimed in five cities across Japan,
World Theater Company’s signature work is revived once again.
Inspired by the director’s father, a surgeon, and the Grimm fairy tale Bluebeard,
this work interweaves the theme of wartime medical crimes—human vivisection experiments—
to probe the dark, unresolved wounds of postwar Japan.
What lies behind the closed door—great achievement or unforgivable crime?
Is Bluebeard a hero, or a villain?
Black or white—only one can be chosen.
Set in a monochrome era marked by repeated outbursts of hatred and frustration,
the performance boldly portrays Japan as a perpetrator, where ethical values crumble away.
Through an intense barrage of physical movement and language,
allegory and historical fact collide at dizzying speed,
creating a stage experience as powerful and provocative as a potent drug.
